In September 2025, Auckland Global Trekkers crossed the Tasman for a relaxed long‑weekend escape in Sydney — a trip filled with sunshine, coastal walking, iconic landmarks, and a full day exploring the Blue Mountains. With warm weather and a great group vibe, it was the perfect short getaway to start the year.
Arrival in the Harbour City
We based ourselves in central Sydney, giving us easy access to Circular Quay, The Rocks, and the waterfront. After checking in, we spent the afternoon stretching our legs around the harbour, taking in views of the Sydney Opera House, Harbour Bridge, and the lively foreshore. It was a gentle start that set the tone for the days ahead.
Spit to Manly – A Classic Sydney Coastal Walk
Our first full day began with one of Sydney’s most iconic tracks: the Spit to Manly Coastal Walk. This 10 km route winds through bushland, beaches, boardwalks, and headlands, offering constant views across Middle Harbour.
Highlights included:
Clontarf Beach
Dobroyd Head
Crater Cove
Shelly Beach
The final stretch into Manly
After completing the walk, we wandered through Manly village before boarding the ferry back to Circular Quay — a stunning ride with classic views of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge.
Blue Mountains – Wentworth Falls to the Three Sisters
The next day we headed west to the Blue Mountains, swapping the harbour for dramatic cliffs, waterfalls, and eucalyptus forests. Starting at Wentworth Falls, we followed the track along the cliff line, stopping at lookouts with sweeping valley views.
The trail eventually led us toward Echo Point, where we finished at the famous Three Sisters — one of Australia’s most recognisable landmarks. It was a full, rewarding day of walking and a real highlight of the trip.
Watsons Bay & Hornby Lighthouse – A Perfect Final Day
On our last morning, we took the ferry to Watsons Bay and followed the coastal path out to Hornby Lighthouse, perched above the entrance to Sydney Harbour. The walk offered bright red cliffs, ocean views, and a relaxed pace — the perfect way to wind down the trip.
Afterwards, we treated ourselves to gelatos in the village, followed by a refreshing swim at Watsons Bay Beach. It was a classic Sydney summer moment and a brilliant way to wrap up the weekend before heading back to New Zealand.
A Perfect Tasman Escape
Our Sydney long‑weekend was the ideal mix of walking, sightseeing, and downtime. With iconic coastal tracks, a memorable Blue Mountains day, warm weather, and great company, it was a standout AGT getaway and a reminder of how easy it is to explore our neighbour across the Tasman.
