In late September 2024, a group of Auckland Global Trekkers swapped the Hauraki Gulf for the Adriatic and set off on a multi‑island walking adventure through Croatia. Over two unforgettable weeks, we explored Split, Brač, Hvar, Vis, Korčula, Mljet, and Dubrovnik — each island offering its own blend of coastal trails, hilltop viewpoints, ancient towns, and warm Mediterranean charm.
Split – Marjan Hill & Coastal Wandering
We began with two nights in Split, settling into the old town and stretching our legs on the beautiful Marjan Hill walk. With the Adriatic shimmering below and forested paths winding above the city, it was the perfect welcome. Some of us added coastal walks and beach stops before catching the early ferry to Brač.
Brač – Bol & Island Views
In Bol, we explored the town and tackled one of the island’s best viewpoints, climbing above the coastline for sweeping views of the famous Zlatni Rat beach. Evenings were spent wandering the waterfront and enjoying the relaxed island pace.
Hvar & Vis – Lavender Trails and Island Hikes
From Bol we ferried to Hvar for three nights, including a day trip to Vis — a highlight of the trip. We hiked to Hum, the highest point on Vis, with panoramic views across the Adriatic. Back on Hvar, we explored coastal trails like the Robinson Trail and soaked up the island’s mix of history, beaches, and lively harbour life.
Korčula – Coastal Walks, Vineyards & Mljet National Park
Korčula was our longest stop, giving us time to explore the old town, walk the island’s scenic trails, and enjoy local wine in Lombarda. A day trip to Mljet National Park took us through lush forests, coastal paths, and around the island’s famous saltwater lakes — a peaceful contrast to the busier islands.
We also walked from Kocje through Zrnovo back to Lombarda, mixing quiet roads, forest trails, and village paths. Olive oil and wine tasting in Vela Luka and Blato added a delicious cultural twist to our walking days.
Dubrovnik – City Walls & Mount Srđ
Our final stop was Dubrovnik, where we explored the old town and took in the views from Mount Srđ — either by cable car or on foot. Some of the group opted for a road trip to the Pelješac Peninsula, visiting Ston’s ancient walls, local wineries, and quiet coastal villages.
A Journey to Remember
From early‑morning ferries to sunset swims, from hilltop lookouts to medieval laneways, the Croatian Islands gave us a perfect mix of walking, culture, food, and friendship. It was a trip filled with laughter, shared meals, and the joy of exploring new landscapes together — exactly what AGT adventures are all about.
